The Clearwater Swimmers released a promising self-titled debut in 2024. My pal Andy Downing wisely pointed out how Maine native Sumner Bright’s songs connected the dots between Neil Young and Andy Shauf; I’d say there’s some Real Estate in there too, and maybe Songs: Ohia or Sun Kil Moon? The exact comparisons matter less than the way Bright encases their singer-songwriter fare in towering guitar arrangements in that fertile roots rock/slowcore overlap.
Today the New England/NYC band is back with news of their Radio Flyer EP, set for release in March. The Clearwater Swimmers recorded it last June at the farmhouse of Garrett Linck, a member of Greg Freeman’s touring band, speaking of artists for this band’s RIYL list. Lead single “Landline” moodily jangles with the best of them, and I recommend you listen to it below.
TRACKLIST:
01 “Seasons”
02 “Landline”
03 “Engine”
04 “Radio Flyer”
Radio Flyer is out 3/20. Pre-order it here.
