AMC Networks announced Thursday morning that it has renewed its noir drama Dark Winds for a fifth season. The decision was made ahead of the season four premiere, which will air Feb. 15 at 9 p.m. Et/Pt.
Filming for season five will begin in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in March. It will debut in 2027 and, like season four, will consist of eight hourlong episodes.
The show stars Zahn McClarnon as Lt. Joe Leaphorn, Kiowa Gordon as Officer Jim Chee, Jessica Matten as Sgt. Bernadette Manuelito and Deanna Allison as Emma Leaphorn. (THR recently caught up with some of the cast at Sundance.) It’s based on the Leaphorn & Chee book series by Tony Hillerman, and season four is inspired by his novel The Ghostway.
