Savannah Guthrie’s 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, has been reported missing from her home in Tucson, Arizona, after she failed to attend morning Mass as expected on Sunday.
Authorities escalated the case after searching the property and finding what they described as concerning signs that Nancy may not have left voluntarily. Reports indicate personal belongings and essential medication were left behind, while blood splatter evidence was also discovered at the scene.
An unverified ransom demand has since been sent to multiple media outlets. Law enforcement has not substantiated whether the note it is genuine.
It reportedly states, “You will have no way of contacting me. This is the only contact,” according to TMZ founder Harvey Levin, who is in receipt of the ransom note.
The Today show anchor made an emotional public plea earlier this week, appearing alongside family members as the search continues.

In a follow-up video shared on Savannah’s Instagram account on Thursday, her brother, Cameron, directly addressed whoever may be holding their mother, pleading for proof of life.
“Whoever is out there holding our mother, we want to hear from you,” he said. “We haven’t heard anything directly.
“We need a way to communicate so we can move forward. But first, we need to know that you have our mom. We are waiting for contact.”
Levin confirmed on celebrity.land that his outlet received the email ransom note, saying the sender took extreme measures to avoid identification.

“They went to great lengths in sending this email to us, making sure they stay anonymous. I don’t know that the FBI is at all close to figuring out where it came from, my guess is that they haven’t, based on what our IT team has done here. So I don’t think they know who sent this,” he said.
He added that the lack of communication channels may explain the family’s public appeals, “That’s why I believe that they are begging for this because they have absolutely no avenue to make contact,” he said.
Ransom demands have reportedly been sent to several outlets, though officials have not verified their authenticity. The FBI has announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to Nancy Guthrie’s safe return.

No suspects have been identified at this time. However, criminal defense attorney Brad Vinson, a partner at Smith and Vinson Law Firm in Austin, Texas, shared his perspective on the case with Irish Star US.
“Stranger kidnappings of elderly adults are extremely rare,” Vinson said. “If foul play is involved, motives are more likely personal rather than financial. Investigators would typically focus on access and opportunity rather than public notoriety.”
Law enforcement officials returned to Nancy Guthrie’s Tucson residence on Wednesday, where investigators were seen examining the garage. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said the visit was part of a routine follow-up. Sheriff Chris Nanos warned that time is critical, telling reporters, “Time is not on our side.”
Authorities believe Nancy may have been abducted sometime between 9.45 p.m. Saturday night and Sunday morning. The investigation remains ongoing.
