Jelly Roll’s wife, Bunnie XO, ran to her husband’s defense after he was accused of being a “performative Christian” online after delivering a passionate speech at the Grammy Awards.

During the February 8 episode of her podcast Dumb Blonde, the 46-year-old influencer took aim at critics who were questioning the authenticity of the country star’s faith. After being awarded the Grammy for Best Contemporary Country Album, Jelly Roll delivered a passionate, heavily religious acceptance speech thanking Jesus for rescuing him and crediting God for his life changes.

After giving the speech, Jelly Roll faced fierce backlash online, with some claiming his words were “MAGA-coded” while others questioned whether he was really sincere or pushing this faith-oriented speech to cater to his fanbase.

After catching wind of his discourse online, his wife set the record straight, calling the accusations horrific, sad, and “borderline demonic.”

Responding to this, Bunnie XO (legally Bunnie DeFord) said, “First of all, Jesus, I hear you and I am listening, Lord. I am listening, Lord. I wanna tell y’all right now, Jesus is for everybody. Jesus is not owned by one political party. Jesus is not owned by any music label. Jesus is Jesus, and everybody can have a relationship with him.”

Sharing her personal relationship with her religion, Bunnie shared, “For the longest time, I didn’t want to be a Christian because of what I saw growing up. Everything that I saw was hypocrisy — the congregation just backbiting each other.”

She continued, “But I grew up around people who I did not want to be like. Seeing all of these people online just tearing apart my husband’s walk of faith makes me not want to associate with that type of Christianity.”

Bunnie then went on to send a pointed message to one specific hater online, whom she referred to as a “f—–g c—-bag.”

She said, “I forgot who she was, but she made a video, and she’s like, ‘Do you guys want to know what kind of Christian Jelly Roll is? For those of you who don’t know, it’s a performative Christian.’ First of all, if I wasn’t trying to walk with God, I would find you and slap the s— out of you lady.”

Bunnie fired off, “Because your voice, the pitch was just so much. It was like nails on a f—–g chalkboard. But I’m trying to turn the other cheek and be better. To me, in what world is it OK to ever question somebody’s walk with God?”

Bunnie’s bold message comes as Jelly Roll has been outspoken about his faith throughout his music career. Despite growing up in a Methodist home and being baptized at the age of 14, Jelly Roll spent his youth in and out of jail, and only decided to turn his life around when he learned that he was a father while incarcerated in 2008.

The Save Me hitmaker shared that he rediscovered his Christian faith around the age of 39, after being inspired by his daughter Bailee Ann’s interest in church. Now, he continues to preach the importance of faith in his life and encourages his fans to turn to Jesus as well.
