Charley Crockett has put his support behind Bad Bunny after Donald Trump attempted to discredit his halftime show.
On Sunday, February 8, the Grammy Award-winning singer gave a legendary performance at Super Bowl LX, bringing his culture to center field with Puerto Rican mementos, fellow Hispanic artists, and the first-ever Spanish-language set, featuring hit singles like Tití Me Preguntó.
Despite smashing the record for the most-watched Super Bowl halftime show with 135.4 million views, the U.S. president was left unimpressed by the production. On his Truth Social account, he called it “absolutely terrible, one of the worst, EVER!”
It further stated it “made no sense” and was “an affront to the Greatness of America.”
Before continuing on praising his own successes, he called Bad Bunny’s set a “‘slap in the face’ to our Country.”
After watching the show and hearing Trump’s reaction, Crockett took to Instagram with his own response. However, his comments were more about his disapproval of the president than of the halftime show.
“That type of thinking isn’t freedom,” he added. “It’s mental slavery.”
Crockett’s comments come after Trump and several other conservatives showed their discontent with Bad Bunny’s halftime show.
Kid Rock, who headlined Turning Point USA’s “All-American Halftime Show,” said it wasn’t his “cup of tea,” while Megyn Kelly called it “a middle finger to America.”
Trump and many other right-wingers have slammed the NFL ever since Bad Bunny was announced as the headliner last September.
Despite the backlash, the NFL stood behind its decision with commissioner Roger Goodell. After the singer’s “ICE Out” speech at the Grammy Awards, he said, “Bad Bunny is, and I think that was demonstrated last night, one of the great artists in the world, and that’s one of the reasons we chose him.”
He also said Bad Bunny understands his platform is meant to “unite people” and “bring people together.”
