Newly released surveillance footage reveals a masked and armed figure outside Nancy Guthrie’s residence on the morning she vanished. The clip captures the individual interfering with Nancy’s Ring doorbell camera and pulling up plants from the yard. The suspect then attempted to use the plants as cover to obstruct the camera’s view.
The figure appeared to be male, dressed in a balaclava, black gloves and a jacket. A weapon was clearly visible tucked into the waistband of their trousers.
FBI director Kash Patel shared the surveillance material on X, writing: “New images in the search for Nancy Guthrie: Over the last eight days, the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been working closely with our private sector partners to continue to recover any images or video footage from Nancy Guthrie’s home that may have been lost, corrupted, or inaccessible due to a variety of factors – including the removal of recording devices.”
He continued: “The video was recovered from residual data located in backend systems.
“Working with our partners – as of this morning, law enforcement has uncovered these previously inaccessible new images showing an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance.”
He implored anyone with information to reach out to 1-800-CALL-FBI. Investigators have emphasized that they haven’t identified a suspect in the case and are instead referring to the individual in the video as a subject.
Savannah Guthrie, Nancy’s daughter, also posted the surveillance footage on her Instagram account. “Someone out there recognizes this person. We believe she is still out there. Bring her home,” she captioned the post.
After the surveillance footage was released, an individual was detained for questioning. The person was apprehended by deputies during a traffic stop south of Tucson, Arizona, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
ABC15 reports that the man who claims he was detained by Pima County Sheriff’s Deputies has since been released. The man, who identified himself as Carlos, said he was held at the scene of the traffic stop for hours.
He alleged, “They didn’t even tell me what’s going on until the detectives got here… They told me I was being detained for kidnapping, and I asked them, ‘Kidnapping of who?”
Nancy, last seen on January 31, vanished in the early hours of February 1. Authorities were alerted about Nancy’s disappearance after she failed to show up for a church service.
