Here’s a spring training guide to all 10 Cactus League stadiums

PHOENIX – The quest for the World Series has to begin somewhere, and for half of the 30 MLB teams, it starts in the Cactus League. Spring training is a great time for baseball fans to gather at the ballpark to get a close look at superstar players such as Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers or top prospects such as Carter Jensen of the Kansas City Royals. 

Although pitcher and catchers have started to report, spring training games begin Feb. 20 and run until March 25. With 15 MLB teams spread across 10 stadiums throughout the Valley, the seasonal rite offers a plethora of things to do and players to watch. 

American Family Fields of Phoenix

Team: Milwaukee Brewers

Year Opened: 1998

Capacity: 10,000

Address: 3600 N. 51st Ave., Phoenix, 85031

Parking: Enter stadium parking lot on 51st Avenue between Osborn and Indian School roads for $5 to $10.

Shaded seats: Since most of the Brewers’ games start at 1:10 p.m., fans will be gathering towards the shaded seats. The best shaded seats in the ballpark will be sections 105-113 along the first base line.

First matchup: Guardians vs. Brewers, Feb. 21 at 1:10 p.m.

Feature matchup: The Brewers take on Great Britain’s baseball team in an exhibition game March 3 at 1:10 p.m.

Most expensive ticket: Seats behind home plate will cost  $53.

Cheapest ticket: Lawn tickets for most Brewers games will cost $22.50.

Feature food: Wisconsin style food highlights American Family Field of Phoenix, including Wisconsin cheese curds and other regional dishes.

Fun Fact: American Family Fields of Phoenix features a recessed playing field making fans feel closer to the action.

Pregame and postgame activities: Arrive early to watch batting practice and other workouts on the Brewers’ practice fields.

Camelback Ranch

Teams: Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago White Sox

Year Opened: 2009

Capacity: 13,000

Address: 10710 W. Camelback Rd. Phoenix, 85037

Parking: Free parking is located behind the stadium at Camelback Ranch.

Shaded seats: Sections 103-115 along the first base side provide shade throughout most of the game.

White Sox’ first matchup: Athletics vs. White Sox, Feb. 21 at 1:05 p.m.

Dodgers’ first matchup: Mariners vs. Dodgers, Feb. 23 at 1:05 p.m.

Dodgers’ feature matchup: The Dodgers take on Team Mexico March 4 at 1:05 p.m.

White Sox’ feature matchup: It will be an intercity rivalry when the White Sox host the Cubs March 13 at 1:05 p.m. 

Dodgers’ most expensive ticket: Sections behind home plate feature the most expensive tickets, ranging from $89 to $100.

Dodgers’ cheapest ticket: Outfield  lawn for $45.

White Sox’ most expensive ticket: Sit directly behind home plate and catch a great view of the ballpark for $63.

White Sox’ cheapest ticket: Outfield lawn for $24.50.

Feature food: Head to section 116 where the Double Play Deli & Pizza will be serving loaded fries in a helmet, Dodger Dogs and plenty more. 

Fun fact: The five-acre lake along the complex is a nice touch to the facilities and along with keeping fans cool it is stocked with fish.

Pregame and postgame activities: Fans can catch team practices or workouts for the White Sox and the Dodgers. The public area to view team workouts opens at 9 a.m. daily starting  Feb. 10 on the White Sox side of the facility and the Dodgers will do the same starting Feb. 13.

Goodyear Ballpark

Teams: Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Guardians

Year Opened: 2009

Capacity: 9,500

Address: 1933 S. Ballpark Way, Goodyear,  85338

Parking: There are five parking lots that surround Goodyear ballpark. Parking is free.

Shaded seats: Section 106A, 106B and 107A are seats that offer dedicated shade. The right field pavilion also offers shaded seats.

First matchup:  Reds vs. Guardians, Feb. 21 at 1:05 p.m.

Guardians’ feature matchup: Dodgers vs. Guardians,  March 3, at 1:05 p.m.

Reds’ feature matchup: Team Cuba vs. Reds,  March 4, 1:05 p.m.

Most expensive ticket: Premium home plate box tickets are $51.45. These tickets include standard-height chairs and a countertop for fans to enjoy their food.

Guardians’ cheapest ticket: The outfield berm offers tickets for $16.95. Fans should bring a blanket if they do not wish to sit directly on the outfield grass.

Reds’ most expensive tickets: Behind home plate, $51.

Reds’ cheapest tickets: Kick back and relax in the outfield berm for $16.

Feature food: Four fixed concession stands throughout the ballpark offer a variety of food items including cheesesteaks, specialty burgers, ice cream, cotton candy and much more.

Fun fact: Goodyear Ballpark is the only spring training facility to host two MLB teams from the same state.

Pregame and postgame activities: Check out Estrella Mountain Regional Park, which is just a five-minute drive from Goodyear Ballpark. Fun activities at Estrella Mountain Regional Park include hiking, biking and horseback riding.

Hohokam Stadium

Team: The Athletics

Year Opened: 1997

Capacity: 10,500

Address: 1235 N Center St., Mesa, 85201

Parking: Hohokam has on-site parking available. Cash is the only form of payment for on-site parking.

Shaded seats: The Terrace Box sections up in the 200 levels provide shade thanks to the roof that covers the seats. Just make sure to sit in a high enough row in those sections to get protection from the sun.

First matchup: Guardians vs. Athletics, Feb. 22, 1:05 p.m.

Feature matchup: The Spring Breakout matchup between the Brewers’ prospects and the Athletics’ prospects,  March 22 at 1:05 p.m.

Most expensive tickets: For $42 fans can sit behind home plate. 

Cheapest ticket: Tickets for the outfield lawn cost $22. Don’t forget to pack a blanket.

Feature food:  The Mustache Pretzels food truck is usually located inside the stadium along the main concourse.

Fun fact: Hohokam offers the largest scoreboard in the Cactus League, measuring 12-by-16 feet.

Pregame and postgame activities: Catch up on the history of Arizona by visiting The Arizona Museum of Natural History, which is just a three-minute drive from the stadium.

Peoria Sports Complex

Teams: San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners

Year Opened: 1994

Capacity: 12,399

Address: 16101 N. 83rd Ave., Peoria, 85382

Parking: Parking for all games is free. Enter from either Mariners Way or Stadium Way to get to the parking lots.

Shaded seats: Sitting in the upper sections of the 200-level offers nice shade throughout the game, or fans can sit in the club level sections in 303-308 for guaranteed shade.

First matchup: Padres vs. Mariners, Feb. 20 at 1:10 p.m.

Mariners’ feature matchup: Dodgers vs. Mariners,  March 13 in a rare evening game at 6:10 p.m.

Padres’ feature matchup: The Padres welcome WBC competitor Great Britain March 4 at 1:10 p.m.

Mariners’ most expensive ticket: Behind home plate for $56.

Mariners’ cheapest ticket: Lawn tickets are $29.

Padres’ most expensive ticket: The Padres’ most expensive tickets will be in sections 303-308 where fans will find padded, shaded seats with in-seat service for $67. 

Padres’ cheapest ticket: Lawn seating is  $32.

Feature food: Peoria Sports Complex has some unique offerings that include gyros, noodle bowls and churros.

Fun fact: The Peoria Sports Complex is the first spring training stadium that was built with the idea of having two teams share the facilities. 

Pregame and postgame activities: Get to the game early and head to Autograph Alley, a designated location to try and get autographs from players. It is located on the right field concourse.

Salt River Fields at Talking Stick

Teams: Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies

Year Opened: 2011

Capacity: 11,000

Address: 7555 N. Pima Road, Scottsdale, 85258

Parking: Parking can be purchased in advance online through TicketMaster and typically costs between $10 to $20.

Shaded seats: Sitting in sections 106-108 along the first base side generally offers the best shaded seats in the stadium, or sit in the 200 level sections along the first base side.

First matchup: Diamondbacks vs. Rockies, Feb. 20 at 1:10 p.m.

Diamondbacks’ feature matchup: The Rockies prospects and Diamondbacks prospects face off in the Spring Breakout game on March 21 at 5 p.m.

Rockies’ feature matchup: The Rockies welcome WBC team United States to Salt River Fields March 4 at 1:10 p.m.

Diamondbacks’ most expensive ticket: The Diamondbacks’ most expensive tickets reside along the dugout boxes and behind home plate for $68.

Diamondbacks’ cheapest ticket: Lawn seats are $23

Rockies’ most expensive ticket: Behind home plate, $58

Rockies’ cheapest ticket: Lawn seating is $13.

Feature food: Rusty Taco is located behind sections 216 and 217 along the third base line.

Fun fact: The architects who designed Salt River Fields are from the same company that designed AT&T Stadium and Camelback Ranch.

Pregame and postgame activities: The OdySea aquarium is a three-minute drive from Salt River Fields. 

Scottsdale Stadium 

Team: San Francisco Giants

Year Opened: 1992

Capacity: 12,000

Address: 7408 E. Osborn Rd., Scottsdale, 85251

Parking: Public parking is available at the Scottsdale Civic Center library garage, south of Scottsdale Stadium.

Shaded seats: Sections 310, 306, 304, 302, 300, 301, 303, 305 and 309 are shaded thanks to the canopy.

First matchup: Cubs vs. Giants, Feb. 22 at 1:05 p.m.

Feature matchup: Team USA faces the Giants at Scottsdale Stadium March 3 at 1:05 p.m. 

Most expensive ticket: The Riot Hospitality Deck tickets are $100 and feature an all-you-can-eat menu along with plenty of shade from the roof that covers the section.

Cheapest ticket:  Lawn seats are $28.  This is one of the stadiums that has trees in the lawn, providing natural shade for fans.

Fun fact: On March 1, when the Giants play the Padres, fans will have the opportunity to bring their dog to the park. There will be a designated area in the outfield lawn where fans and their furry companions will sit.

Pregame and postgame activities: There are three golf courses within 15 minutes of Scottsdale Stadium: Camelback Golf Club, McCormick Ranch Golf Club and Scottsdale Silverado Golf Club.

Sloan Park

Team: Chicago Cubs

Year Opened: 2014

Capacity: 15,000

Parking: Parking prices vary depending on which lot fans decide to use. All lots are cashless and require a credit card.

Shaded seats: Sections 112-115 along the first base side offer the best shade. Be sure to sit seven or more rows up to be shaded.

Address: 2330 W. Rio Salado Pkwy., Mesa, 85201

First matchup: The Cubs take on their cross town rival White Sox Feb. 20 at 1:05 p.m.

Feature matchup: The last time the Yankees were in Arizona for spring training was 1951, and it was Mickey Mantle who was up at the plate that year. This year it will be Aaron Judge and the Yankees who visit Sloan Park on March 23 and 24. Both games start at 12:05 p.m. 

Most expensive ticket: Infield box seats behind home plate cost $68.

Cheapest ticket: Tickets in the berm start at $24.50 for most games. 

Feature food: Lots of Chicago-themed food inside the stadium, including but not limited to Vienna Beef hot dogs and Chicago-style pizza.

Fun fact: Sloan Park is the largest spring training stadium in Arizona with a capacity of 15,000.

Pregame and postgame activities: The Cubs’ practice fields are open to the public from 9 a.m.  until 12:30 p.m.

Surprise Stadium

Teams: Kansas City Royals and Texas Rangers

Year Opened: 2002

Capacity: 10,500

Address: 15850 N. Bullard Ave., Surprise, 85374

Parking: Surprise Stadium parking is free. Enter the main lot off Bullard Avenue.

Shaded seats: Sit alongside the first base side in sections 112, 110, 108 or 106 to get away from the sun.

First matchup: Royals vs. Rangers, Feb. 20 at 1:05 p.m.

Rangers’ feature matchup:  Team Brazil vs. Rangers,  March 4 at 1:05 p.m.

Royals’ feature matchup: Dodgers vs. Royals, March 17 at 6:05 p.m.

Rangers’ most expensive ticket:  $58 behind home plate.

Rangers’ cheapest ticket: Lawn seats are $11.

Royals’ most expensive ticket: Behind home plate, $58.

Royals’ cheapest ticket: Lawn seats are $15.50.

Feature food: Surprise Stadium has a variety of vendors along the third base line. 

Fun fact: Surprise Stadium hosts the Big 12 Conference baseball tournament this year for the first time.

Pregame and postgame activities: The Surprise Community Park-Pickle Ball Courts are a short drive from Surprise Stadium. The courts open at 6 a.m. and close at 10 p.m.

Tempe Diablo Stadium

Team: Los Angeles Angels

Year Opened: 1969

Capacity: 9,558

Address: 2200 W. Alameda Dr., Tempe, 85282

Parking: Parking costs between $10 to $15 in the main lot on the left side of the stadium.

Shaded seats: Sit directly behind home plate and at least 15 rows up for guaranteed shade.

First matchup: Dodgers vs. Angels, Feb. 21 at 1:10 p.m.

Feature matchup: The Angels’ first matchup could be considered one of their best. The Dodgers take on the Angels Feb. 21 at 1:10 p.m. (This game is already sold out on the Angels website so fans will have to go through third-party sellers to get tickets.)

Most expensive tickets: Tickets behind home plate in sections 8-14 are $68. 

Cheapest ticket: Outfield lawn seats are $14; find a spot underneath one of the trees in left field for natural shade.

Feature food: Head down the third base line for the signature helmet nachos or stop by the Chick-fil-A located inside the stadium.

Fun fact: Tempe Diablo Stadium is the oldest spring training stadium in the Cactus League and the third oldest spring training stadium in the nation, trailing Public Field at Joker Marchant Stadium (1966) in Lakeland, Fla., and LECOM Park (1923) in Bradenton, Fla. 

Pregame and postgame activities: There are endless things to do in Tempe, but some of the best activities include visiting Tempe Town Lake or the Desert Botanical Gardens which are both short drives from Tempe Diablo Stadium.Disclaimer: Ticket prices are subject to change at any point and most teams use variable pricing depending on demand or popularity of the game.
