Shortly after authorities began focusing their investigation on the roads near Nancy Guthrie’s home after the release of surveillance footage from her doorbell camera, a major clue was potentially discovered.
Following the release of images that showed a man approaching the door and trying to tamper with the camera, investigators began looking through the brush and along the roads in the Catalina Foothills near the 84-year-old’s home, where they possibly found something that could help break the case wide open.
Black gloves were seen in the released images and video by the FBI, as the person of interest wore a pair as they tried to obscure the camera.
Other notable items included a ski mask and backpack.
The celebrity.land, which was present at the scene, reports that video and photos show at least one member of the FBI Evidence Response team pulling a discarded black glove from the low desert shrubbery that is prevalent in Guthrie’s secluded suburb.
It comes after the release of the footage, which was seen as the first major breakthrough in the case, which has now entered its eleventh day following the family reporting her missing on February 1.
Later in the day, authorities also detained a person of interest for questioning near the Mexican border, but the person was later released without charges.
Authorities have not identified any suspects behind the presumed kidnapping.
Guthrie, the mother of Today Show co-host Savannah Guthrie, was reported missing on February 1 after she failed to show up to a church service that morning. She was last seen the night prior when she was dropped off at her home following dinner with family by her son-in-law, Tomasso Cioni.
Guthrie’s garage door, where she re-entered the property, was reported to have closed at 9:50 p.m. on Saturday, January 31.
Prior to the release of the footage, authorities only revealed that Guthrie’s doorbell camera had disconnected at 1:47 a.m., and while motion was detected at 2:12 a.m., footage was initially not retrieved because Guthrie did not pay an active subscription to store footage.
Following that, her pacemaker app was disconnected from her phone at 2:28 a.m.. A fellow churchgoer alerted the family to her not making it to church at 11 a.m., and her family alerted authorities one hour later.
