James Van Der Beek, the lead star of 90s TV hit “Dawson’s Creek,” has died at the young age of 48, his wife Kimberly announced in a joint Instagram post early Thursday morning (Manila time).
In the comment section, celebrities mourned the actor, including Taylor Lautner who could only say, “a tremendous man” and singer Hilary Duff, who addressed Kimberly and said she was “sending all the love I have.”
Others, like Busy Philipps who played Audrey Liddell in “Dawson’s Creek,” took to their own social media accounts to grieve, saying “my heart is deeply hurting for all of us today.”
“I am profoundly heartbroken for his incredible wife Kimberly and their six magical children,” she added and she informed her followers about the Go Fund Me page for people who may want to help out James’ bereaved family.
The actress Mary Margaret Humes, who played James’ mother on the series described the late actor as “my gracious warrior.”
“You fought a hard battle against all odds with such quiet strength and dignity. I will always love and admire you for that,” she added.
Sarah Michelle Gellar posted a throwback photo on Instagram Stories and said “I grew up alongside James. He was one of the good guys. This is a true loss.”
Also throwing a throwback photo, Selma Blair said she and James “started at the same time in this town, and I always just admired and appreciated you so much.”
According to Selma her admiration for James grew when she met Kimberly, his wife, “and saw your complete love for that growing family in a way that bowled me over with gratitude that you existed.”
“You will be missed,” she added. “I send all my love to your beautiful family. So much love.”
James is best known for playing the titular character on “Dawson’s Creek” and headlined movies like “Varsity Blues” and “The Rules of Attraction.”
In 2024, he announced his cancer diagnosis and a year later, said he was going to auction personal items from the series to help cover his cancer costs.
