For over 20 years, Salman Khan has been facing heat for the 1998 Blackbuck poaching case. The actor was found guilty of hunting a blackbuck, which is an endangered species protected under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. In 2018, a Jodhpur court sentenced him to five years in prison and imposed a penalty of Rs 10,000. Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Tabu, and Neelam Kothari, who were allegedly with Salman during the hunting, were acquitted. He was granted bail by the Jodhpur Sessions Court. In March 2022, the Rajasthan High Court granted permission to transfer two petitions from the Jodhpur District and Sessions Court to the High Court. While the case settled down over the years, the Bishnoi community, who protect the blackbuck, are still avenging the shooting.
