A pair of gloves supposedly worn by the person who kidnapped Nancy Guthrie have been found in a field, and are being tested for DNA.
Savannah Guthrie‘s 84-year-old mother has been missing since February 1, and it is believed she was taken from her home in Arizona against her will.
The search has now hit the two-week mark, after the FBI released security footage and images of a subect approaching Nancy;s front door in the early hours of that Sunday morning. It comes after an ex-FBI agent revealed the hidden codeword that Savannah used in her message to the kidnappers.
According to a statement posted on X by NewsNation correspondent Brian Entin, the FBI reportedly said, “The gloves found approximately 2 miles from the Guthrie residence in a field near the side of the road were packaged up by PCOS and sent overnight on 2/12 and they arrived at their private lab in Florida on 2/13.
“The FBI received preliminary results yesterday on 2/14 and are awaiting quality control and official confirmation today before putting unknown male profile into CoDIS, the national database unique to the bureau. This process typically takes 24 hours from when the bureau receives DNA.”
The statement continued, “Investigators collected approximately 16 gloves in various areas near the house. Most of them were searchers’s gloves that they discarded in various areas when they searched the vicinity.
“The one with the DNA profile recovered is different and appears to match the gloves of the subject in the surveillance video. The FBI has and will continue to provide assistance on whatever timeline is provided to us.”
The major update was also covered on Fox News on Sunday, February 15, when host Mike Emmanuel told viewers, “Breaking this afternoon in the search of Nancy Guthrie. One of the gloves recovered appears to match the glove of the suspect in the surveillance video.”
Darrin Porcher added, “Well, this is not just a lead. This is a potential for breaking news. Because this is a crack in the case we’re looking for. How can we apply this to the identification as it relates to someone we saw in the video to a DNA Sample?
“Fortunately, this seems like it’s going into fruition. We’re going to run this. We’re going to place this information into the CODS database. The CODIS database has all the information on those who have been arrested in the 90s up until now. This will be what we need to garner us into the directional path of rescuing Nancy as well as bringing the perpetrators into custody, as it relates to this case.
He then went on to say,” I’m extremely excited. This shows the tenacity of law enforcement to move at breakneck speed to try to gain a clue in cracking this case. I genuinely believe a positive outcome as it relates to the analysis of this DNA. This is a key component in getting us to that point.
“So, getting back to what you asked me. I’m excited about it! I think we’re going to have to have a positive result in cracking this case,” he finished.
Emmanuel said, “Let’s hope and pray we get some answers and bring Nancy home to her family.”
It comes after Sheriff Chris Nanos admitted that the search for Nancy was “exhausting” and said it may take “years” to find her.
Speaking to The New York Times on Friday, February 13, Nanos was asked how long it could take before the mother of Savannah Guthrie is found. “Maybe it’s an hour from now, maybe it’s weeks or months or years from now,” he told the outlet. “But we won’t quit. It’s exhausting, these ups and downs, but we will keep moving forward.”
“We’re going to find Nancy. We’re going to find this guy,” he added.
Nancy disappeared two weeks ago, after her son-in-law dropped her off at home following a family dinner on January 31.
The next morning, when Nancy didn’t show up for her regular church service, a worried friend contacted her family, who then alerted the police. That’s when officers found blood on Nancy’s front door and signs of forced entry, leading them to believe she had been kidnapped.
She has not been seen since that time, and authorities are continuing their investigation.
