Newly released emails from the U.S. Justice Department reveal that a member of the royal family asked Jeffrey Epstein if they could serve as his “house assistant.”
The files redacted the name of the former Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson. Identified only as “Sarah,” she reportedly requested the position from Epstein.
The Justice Department website shared details of the email exchange dated May 16, 2010. In the messages, Ferguson appears to request a role in Epstein’s household.
She wrote, “But why I don’t understand? Don’t you just get me to be your House Assistant? I am the most capable and desperately need the money. Please, Jeffrey, think about it. Also had David Stern down for tea yesterday with Andrew [Mountbatten-Windsor, younger brother of King Charles], he has an update for you.”

In a subsequent email, Ferguson added the following question. “India, Poppy, assistants?” Stern is a German businessman, investor, former aide to Mountbatten-Windsor, and a close associate of Epstein. Ferguson did not indicate who India and Poppy were in her correspondence.
According to PEOPLE Magazine, Ferguson’s emails to Epstein occurred “after Epstein had served 13 months in a Florida jail for soliciting and procuring an underage girl for prostitution.”

In 2009, federal evidence showed Ferguson emailed Epstein, thanking him for his help with brand deals. “In just one week, after your lunch, it seems the energy has lifted. I have never been more touched by a friend’s kindness than your compliment to me in front of my girls. Thank you, Jeffrey, for being the brother I have always wished for.”
One year later, Ferguson appeared to again email Epstein, thanking him for his assistance. She wrote, “You are a legend. I really don’t have the words to describe my love, gratitude for your generosity and kindness. Xx I am at your service. Just marry me.”
Ferguson and Mountbatten Windsor have not spoken publicly since the Department of Justice released the files. His last major, on-the-record commentary occurred during a 2019 BBC Newsnight interview.
Sarah Ferguson and Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor married in July 1986. They separated in 1992 and divorced in 1996. They have two daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.
