ABC’s heartwarming music series The Piano is returning this March, with Guy Sebastian joining to mentor everyday Australians who play for passion.

Hosted by beloved Australian TV and radio presenter Amanda Keller, The Piano is a unique series that blends real-life storytelling with surprise mentorship, showcasing everyday Australians and the life-affirming power of music.

Filmed across a range of public locations — from bustling train stations to busy shopping centres — the show invites Australians of all ages and backgrounds to sit at a piano and share a piece of themselves through music. What starts as spontaneous performance art quickly reveals deeper layers, as pianists recount the personal stories behind their chosen songs and their lifelong connection to the instrument.

But there’s a twist: what the performers don’t know is that they’re being secretly watched by two world-class musicians – legendary Australian singer-songwriter Guy Sebastian and celebrated Australian concert pianist Andrea Lam. Observing from a hidden vantage point at each location, the pair carefully select one standout performer to receive direct mentorship, guiding them towards a major opportunity – a performance at Sydney’s iconic City Recital Hall.

The show sets out to discover extraordinary community pianists, people who aren’t seeking stardom, but play purely out of passion. Some of the most remarkable street piano moments have already been captured on film and gone viral online, and the show hopes to discover who these everyday musicians behind the world’s favourite instrument are.

Season One featured guest judge Harry Connick Jr., alongside Lam and Keller.

The Piano is produced by A EUREKA, a Fremantle Company production for ABC, with major production investment from the broadcaster. Executive Producers Bethan Briegel-Jones and Gemma Murphy, alongside ABC’s Kath Earle and Julie Hanna, have ensured the show not only entertains but resonates with the Australian community’s love for music.

The Piano will premiere on Sunday, March 15th at 7:30pm on ABC TV, with all episodes available to stream on ABC iview.
