Maren Morris Conquers Australia and New Zealand

On the heels of her acclaimed Dreamsicle album, Morris’ tour has brought her signature blend of heartfelt storytelling and soaring vocals to fans eager for both intimacy and spectacle. From Sydney to Adelaide, and across New Zealand, audiences were treated to a mix of reflection and fun — a balance Morris says she’s loved every minute of.

Her most personal and sonically adventurous work to date, 2025’s Dreamsicle is a fearless exploration of heartbreak and healing, while also infused with warmth, wit, and hard-won optimism.

Morris’ return to New Zealand marked a special milestone in particular: her first-ever performance in Christchurch. Backing her on tour was fellow songwriter Jack Gray, whose music she describes as complementing the Dreamsicle universe perfectly, especially in the tour’s intimate settings.

We caught up with her ahead of her New Zealand shows last weekend, which she says have given her a trove of new experiences to reflect on before returning to the studio.

Maren Morris: It’s been amazing. I already can’t wait to come back.

What were the crowds like in Australia? How did they compare to back home?

So energetic and kind. Truly the perfect mix of fans really listening to the stories behind the songs as well as having fun.

Are you looking forward to playing in New Zealand?

Yes it’s been years since I last did, so I can’t wait to be back. I’m excited to play Christchurch for the first time.

What do you remember about your last visit to New Zealand? Any fond memories?

We’ve gone to Waiheke Island both trips on days off to enjoy a day at the vineyard. The most beautiful setting you could ever enjoy a glass of sauvignon blanc in.

Are there any Australia/New Zealand artists you really like?

She’s more of a songwriter but my favourite vocalist is Sarah Aarons. I love writing with her.

What made Jack Gray the ideal support for your current tour?

I love his songwriting style so much. In these more intimate venues on my first headliner run over here, Jack’s music complemented the Dreamsicle universe in such a gorgeous way.

Tell us about Dreamsicle. We’re approaching its one-year anniversary! Are you happy with how fans received the record?

I am. It was the hardest album I’ve ever written in terms of personal life but I needed it. This record was the bandaid for my broken heart as well as a trophy of perseverance.

What’s coming up for you after your New Zealand tour?

I have a small break at home and then a few American weeks of touring this year. I’m not quite ready to be back in the studio writing yet but when I am, I’ll have a trove of beautiful experiences from this tour to reflect on.
