A beloved Hollywood actress has passed away at the age of 92. She was best known for her roles in Surf Party, Tales Of Wells Fargo, Bonanza and Wagon Train. It has been confirmed that mother-of-three Lory Patrick, born Lory Basham Jones, died “peacefully” on January 26 in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
Her family announced the news on January 20. Lory was the widow of Dean Jones, a Disney star recognized for his work in That Darn Cat!, The Love Bug and The Shaggy D. A.
The couple were married for 42 years until Dean’s death from Parkinson’s disease in September 2015 at the age of 84. Lory also featured in The Many Loves Of Dobie Gillis, The Adventures Of Ozzie And Harriet, Alcoa Presents With Fred Astaire and Dr Kildare.
She built a thriving television career, appearing in more than 70 series before stepping away from acting in the late 1960s.
Whilst residing in Manhattan, she secured modeling assignments and leading roles in television advertisements.
During that period, Lory signed a contract with Universal Studios and was cast as schoolteacher Tina Swenson in NBC’s Tales of Wells Fargo.
She appeared in 15 episodes throughout the western’s sixth and final season alongside Dale Robertson.
The actress also featured in The Loretta Young Show, a 1950s drama anthology series hosted by actress Loretta Young, where she conveyed important moral lessons through compelling narratives.
Lory additionally appeared in the films The Farmer’s Daughter and The Bishop’s Wife.
Following the 1964 release of Surf Party, Lory resumed making guest appearances on television shows including Death Valley Days, Dr Kildare and Bonanza.
In addition to her performances, she penned scripts for Bonanza, a notable achievement for women working in television at the time. Lory’s final acting credit came in 1967’s This Is The Life as Mary.
She leaves behind children Caroline Jones, Deanna Demaree and Michael Pastick, as well as eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; brothers Richard Basham, Tom Basham, and Paul Basham; sister Carol Vanderhoof; and other extended family.
