Chappell Roan’s medieval fairytale vision came alive on stage at Laneway Festival on Sunday in the form of camp, feminine energy as she performed her greatest pop hits.

Thousands of excited fans wearing pink cowgirl hats huddled together in front of Arena Joondalup’s main stage as they waited for the singing sensation’s concert to begin just before 9pm.

The suspense in the air was electric as all eyes focused on the giant gothic castle set on stage, and after some flashing green lights and smoke, the decorated pop star emerged to a screaming crowd.

The 27-year-old, born Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, looked flawless in a pirate-like red and black Elizabethan outfit with a modern twist.

With her voluminous curly red hair flowing behind her, she launched into her song Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl, then continued with Femininomenon and After Midnight.

Her makeup looked impeccable, and she sparkled under the stage lights thanks to her golden eyeshadow, glowing cheek highlighter and perfectly lined maroon lips.

From dancing on the stage to ascending the stairs onto the castle bridge, she brought the party vibes.

She jammed alongside her all female band members who also wore eccentric outfits on theme with Roan’s drag-queen influenced style.

Addressing her fans she said: “Thank you for having me. You guys are so far away, that’s okay.”

“This is so awesome, I’m so grateful to be here.”

Roan also took a moment to thank all of her crew who helped her achieve success during the gruelling festival circuit.

“It’s a really hard festival run for so many reasons,” she admitted.

As Roan continued to perform her hits like The Subway, The Giver, Red Wine Supernova and Good Luck, Babe! it was hard not to be mesmerised by the impressive stage design and screen graphics.

Roan and her creative team really thought of everything to create a production full of theatrics and nods to classic fantasy tales with circling dragons and dancing goblin visuals.

During Hot To Go, she pulled out fiery pyrotechnics as the entire mass of fans did the signature letter dance moves (think YMCA) to the catchy track.

During her set, Roan also revealed she suffered a wardrobe malfunction during her cover of Barracuda by 1977 band Heart.

“I wasn’t on the floor having a seizure,” she said, referring to when she lied down on the floor for part of the song.

“Bless it be, my nipple came out.”

She also later debunked rumours she had work done to her bum saying, “Yes, it is my real a**”.

Roan finished her 90 minute concert with My Kink is Karma and one of her most popular songs Pink Pony Club.

It was certainly the festival of Chappell Roan as Laneway ended its New Zealand and Australian run in WA in the best way possible.

Despite some fans citing audio issues, Roan’s act blew festivalgoers away with the extent of creativity and just pure good vibes playing out on the stage.

Roan has cemented herself as a pop princess not to be reckoned with and it’s no wonder why she was awarded the Best New Artist at The Grammys in 2025.

The rest of Laneway also oozed talent with one very special Australian icon taking the stage to surprise the crowd.

Role Model

Robert Irwin was revealed as American singer Role Model’s surprise ‘Sally’, much to the excitement of fans who kept their fingers crossed for the whole day hoping it would be him.

Role Model, real name Tucker Pillsbury, is renowned for bringing out a celebrity or musician to dance during his song Sally, When The Wine Runs Out.

Fans had been anticipating his performance all day after the wildlife warrior posted a photo to Instagram showing he was on his way to Perth with one of Role Model’s songs playing in the background.

The crowd roared after he did indeed appear on stage in his signature Australia Zoo khakis with a huge toothy grin on his face.

He danced on stage, even doing the worm and showing off his muscly arms.

PinkPantheress

The British singer and producer performed an early evening set full of her most viral hits.

Singing on the smaller stage at the festival, some fans made the call she deserved a spot on the main stage after drawing in a huge crowd that spilled out of the designated stage area.

The 24-year-old looked stellar as she sang hits such as Illegal, Boy’s a liar and Stateside.

Wet Leg

Fellow Brits Wet Leg led by Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers changed up the energy with their indie rock vibe and unique look.

Teasdale rocked out to fans on a lime green guitar wearing a white top and gold hotpants with her untamed pink and green wet hair dripping down her back.

The band performed several fan favourites including their breakout single Chaise Longue from 2021.

Wolf Alice

Another British band got fans primed for Chappell Roan with lead singer Ellie Rowsell’s powerful angelic vocals captivating the crowd.

Belting out tunes like Bloom Baby Bloom and Don’t Delete the Kisses in a white outfit embellished with blue stars, Rowsell had the audience under her rock spell.

“I love coming to Australia, you guys have always been so good to us,” she said.

The band is coming back Down Under in December for a headline tour.
