Hilary Duff admits marriage insecurities: 'I always think Matt’s going to leave me' while discussing new track 'Holiday Party'

Hilary Duff courageously shared her ongoing struggles with marital insecurities, admitting she sometimes worries that her husband, Matthew Koma, may abandon her for a fellow artist. This emotional backdrop has given rise to her new song ‘Holiday Party,’ a reflection on the chaos of intrusive thoughts.

Hilary Duff says she still struggles with insecurity in her marriage to Matthew Koma, even though they work closely together and share a busy family life. In a candid interview with Rolling Stone, the singer and actress admitted she often fears her husband will leave her for someone else. “I always think Matt’s going to leave me for some coolio indie songwriter that he works with,” she said. The worry feels real to her, even if it is not grounded in fact. Koma addressed it directly. “Which is so insane,” he said, “but also very real. Those are real things to get hung up on emotionally.”

Hilary Duff’s marriage fears inspire new song

As reported by Page Six, Duff said those feelings show up in her new track “Holiday Party.” The song dives into the anxious thoughts that creep in when she is alone with her imagination. She sings, “In my head you live another life / Where you f-k all my friends / And wish someone else could’ve been your wife.” The lyrics reflect the fear she described in the interview. She explained that putting those emotions into music helped her face them. Koma did not dismiss her concerns. Rather than dismissing her worries, he took them seriously, even though he does not question their marriage in the same way. He said her worries sound “insane” but are also “very real,” underscoring that he understands how overwhelming and believable those fears can become.

Hilary Duff’s family life and creative partnership

Duff and Koma met through work and quickly connected. She recalled that they “ended up hanging for two hours, just talking about music.” Koma later said he told his manager after that first meeting that he wanted to marry her.The couple tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in Los Angeles. They now raise three daughters together and Duff’s son from a previous marriage. Koma also collaborated with her on her latest music, helping write and produce new material.Duff said creating the project felt “super healing.” The songs explore insecurity, family dynamics, and personal growth. By speaking openly about her fears, she shows a different side of her marriage. It is not perfect, but it is honest.
