Feb. 20 (UPI) — Despite having several nominations, some well-known celebrities have never actually snagged an Oscar for their films.

Fatal Attraction actress Glenn Close and Enchanted star Amy Adams are among the most-nominated artists who have yet to win.

Read on to learn more about the five actors on our list, as well as the films that didn’t quite win them an Oscar.

Glenn Close

The 101 Dalmatians star has so far accumulated four Best Supporting Actress nominations and four Best Actress nominations.

Her first nod followed her film The World According to Garp, which debuted in 1982 and starred Robin Williams in the titular role. Close’s portrayal of his mother, Jenny Fields, secured her a Best Supporting Actress nomination.

She was also up for the honor following the 1983 film The Big Chill, the 1984 feature The Natural, and the 2020 movie Hillbilly Elegy.

Close is perhaps best known for her role as Alex Forrest in the 1987 movie Fatal Attraction, which followed her obsession with a married man (Michael Douglas). That film earned her a nomination for Best Actress, as did Dangerous Liaisons (1988), Albert Nobbs (2011) and The Wife (2018).

Peter O’Toole

Like Close, O’Toole was in the running for an Oscar eight times.

The late actor, who died in 2013, was perhaps best-known for his portrayal of T.E. Lawrence in the 1962 feature Lawrence of Arabia. That performance earned him a nod for Best Actor.

His roles in Becket (1964), The Lion in Winter (1968), Goodbye, Mr. Chips (1969), The Ruling Class (1972), The Stunt Man (1980), My Favorite Year (1982) and Venus (2006) also earned him recognition as potential Best Actor winner.

Though he didn’t receive an Oscar for any of the movies he starred in, he was feted with an Honorary Oscar in 2003.

Richard Burton

The late Burton, who is perhaps best known for marrying Elizabeth Taylor twice, was nominated for Best Actor seven times before he died in 1984.

Burton had starred opposite Taylor in Cleopatra, but his performances in the films My Cousin Rachel (1952), The Robe (1953), Becket (1964), The Spy Who Came in from the Cold (1965), Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966), Anne of the Thousand Days (1969) and Equus (1977) earned him nominations for the Oscar.

Taylor had also starred in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, and her performance did win her an Oscar.

The actor had been married five times in all and was known to have issues around drinking.

Amy Adams

The actress, who recently starred in At the Sea, has so far been nominated for an Oscar six times. Of these nods, two were for Best Actress, while the remaining four were for Best Supporting Actress.

In the 2013 feature American Hustle, Adams portrayed Sydney Prosser, who commits loan fruad with Christian Bale’s Irving Rosenfeld. The role put her in the running for Best Actress.

She was also nominated for the award for her portray of Dr. Louise Banks in Arrival (2016).

Adams didn’t win Best Supporting Actress, either, though she was nominated for Junebug (2005), Doubt (2008), The Fighter (2013) and Vice (2018).

Deborah Kerr

Like Adams, Kerr was nominated for six Oscars.

The late actress, who died in 2007, is perhaps best known for her portrayal of Ann Leonowens in The King and I, the 1956 film that led to a Best Actress nod.

She was also in the running for the accolade following Edward, My Son (1949), From Here to Eternity (1953), Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison (1957), Separate Tables (1958) and The Sundowners (1960).

Though the nominations never resulted in a win, she did receive an Honorary Oscar in 1994.
