For the 23rd year, the Pelham Music Festival brought local students together to showcase their musical talents, either by playing an instrument or singing.
This year’s event, hosted by the Pelham Country Club on January 31, attracted about 130 student performers from grades 3 through 12. The participants showcased their skills on a range of instruments, including the piano, violin, viola, flute and more. Others sang solos or performed duets.
When interviewed, most participants said that they were “really nervous” about performing. At the same time, they said they loved playing at the festival before an audience in a formal venue such as the country club.
The festival exists because of the vision of its founders, Bob and Lauren Eicher, who organized the first festival in 2003 in order to give local students a chance to play their music. They continue to support the event. Other sponsors include the Pelham Civic Association and the Junior League of Pelham.
Despite the high number of students who participated and variety of pieces they played, the program flowed smoothly thanks to the expert direction of Rose Horley, who has chaired the event since 2016.
The Pelham Music Festival has now become a local institution, and younger participants can look forward to playing again in years to come.
