Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has been faced with fresh humiliation after a plaque celebrating his visit to Inverness has been removed. The 66-year-old reopened Inverness Town House in 2018, with a plaque fitted to mark the historic occasion.
The plaque, which was situated at the front entrance of the building, on the Bridge Street side, has appeared to have been removed. The removal was thought to have taken place after the disgraced royal was stripped of his titles last year.
The Highland Council have since confirmed that it removed the plaque earlier this week.
According to The Inverness Courier, many locals took to social media to share their opinions on the removal – with some even stating that it is part of history.
Claire Mapplebeck said: “It’s a part of history, I don’t agree with what has happened, but it’s history. If it needs to be taken down then put it in a museum.”
With an opposite opinion, Kim Corbett said: “It’s one thing that should definitely disappear from the city forever, never to be seen again.”
The Highland Council have confirmed that it has been place in storage.
The former prince and Earl of Inverness was stripped of his titles in the face of controversy over his connections to the late convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
He was also arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office last Thursday, which also happened to be his 66th birthday.
The arrest, which saw him released under investigation 11 hours later, took place at his new residence in Norfolk – just days after his eviction from Royal Lodge in Windsor. Andrew has always denied any wrongdoing or accusations against him.
