Known for her ‘rude girl’ roots reggae, Yeza did not disappoint as she made her appearance on the Lost In Time Foundation stage on the back of a bike to the delight of patrons.
Showing respect to her musical roots, the reggae newcomer, who said she will always respect those who came before her, invited up the ‘Queen of the Pack’, Patra, to greet the audience before going into classic hits such as Traffic Blocking.
Dressed in silver from top to toe, Yeza kicked it off with Road Runner. With Tek Chat and Bullseye, she showed them what her waist could do before declaring that she was a natural body advocate and unnecessary cosmetic surgery was not in her plans for advancement. She offered up Organic to a crowd that was loving the positive message. She also made it clear that she was all about protecting children from both abuse and predators, performing Nuh Trouble We.
Yeza told The Gleaner that she was happy to be able to give the audience more than what they expected from her performance-wise.
“I’m so glad that the people were loving it from start to finish. The whole idea for the entrance was concocted between me and my manager as we said it was either going to be a handcart or a bike… In the end, I went with the bike, and it went over very well,” she said.
When asked about the enthusiactic response from the audience, she shared that real recognised real and that her sound was a cross between conscious lyrics and a touch of street culture.
“I’m real, and I bring the energy so they then respond to that. Plus, I merge consciousness with the vibes of the street. A lot of times with music, we separate the two, I don’t, so conscious people can rock with me as well as the ghetto girl from down a town, and I feel that is important,” said Yeza.
As Lost in Time continues to unfold at the Hope Botanical Gardens in St Andrew, Joby Jay and Iotosh hit the Foundation Stage and Tessanne Chin and Mortimer hit the LIT Stage.
Tanya Stephens is currently on stage. Still to come are powerhouse sets from Protoje and Lila Iké.
Sunday’s staging will crescendo with a headline performance from Chronixx. He will be joined on Day 2 by Jesse Royal, Jah 9, Naomi Cowan, Dyani, Royal Blu, and Dahvid Slur, ensuring that the musical journey continues well beyond its promising start.
