Rockies starting pitcher Michael Lorenzen struggled with command today, issuing a leadoff walk to Bobby Witt Jr. in the first inning before surrendering a double to Jac Caglianone.
Colorado escaped the jam for the time being by turning an unconventional 6-4-3 double play.
However, Lorenzen surrendered back-to-back singles and a walk, setting up Nick Loftin’s grand slam that put the Royals ahead 5-0 early.
Lorenzen finished his outing after two innings, giving up four hits and five runs while walking four batters.
Colorado clawed back in the bottom of the second with solo home runs from Jordan Beck and Charlie Condon.
Rockies rotation hopeful Ryan Feltner struggled as well, walking four batters and surrendering three runs in just 1.2 innings.

Colorado returns to action tomorrow afternoon with Chase Dollander scheduled to start as they face the Cleveland Guardians.
