The news comes on the same day the show resumes its fifth season, with a new episode set to air tonight at 8:30 p.m. Et on the broadcast network. Season 5 originally premiered on Oct. 1.
“Abbott Elementary” has become a cornerstone of ABC’s primetime scripted lineup, with the show remaining highly popular even this late in its run. It is also one of the only pure comedies that ABC currently airs, alongside the multi-cam “Shifting Gears” with Tim Allen and Kat Dennings and the recently launched revival of “Scrubs.” “Abbott Elementary” has received 30 Emmy nominations to date, with four wins.
Series creator Quinta Brunson stars in the show alongside Tyler James Williams, Janelle James, Chris Perfetti, Lisa Ann Walter, William Stanford Davis, and Emmy Award winner Sheryl Lee Ralph.
