Canadian country artist Delta Sweet is taking listeners on a nostalgic ride with his latest single, “The Backroad of Memory Lane.”

The track marks the first release under his new deal with New Motor Records and signals another step forward in the evolving solo career of Patrick Kordyback, the JUNO Award-winning frontman of the multi-platinum band Stereos.

Blending gritty country storytelling with rock-influenced guitars, “The Backroad of Memory Lane” captures the emotional push and pull of looking back on life while trying to keep moving forward.

A Country Song About the Allure of the Past

At its core, “The Backroad of Memory Lane” is about nostalgia and the complicated emotions that come with it. The song leans into familiar imagery of the “good ol’ days,” but instead of simply celebrating the past, it questions the pull of living in it too deeply.

For Delta Sweet, that theme is deeply personal.

“I’m someone who’s lived what feels like 10 different lives,” he explains. “I’ve seen the highest highs of pursuing this crazy dream in music, I’ve been married to the love of my life, and I’ve also had to live with and learn from what it feels like to lose both.”

That lived experience adds weight to the song’s lyrics. While the melodies are undeniably catchy, the message underneath is more reflective. Nostalgia can be comforting, but it can also become a trap.

“I very intentionally use the metaphors in the chorus of substances that feel great in the moment that can also lead to a dangerous path if they’re relied upon too heavily,” he says.

A Sound That Blends Country Hooks With Rock Energy

Produced by Shawn Moore, “The Backroad of Memory Lane” balances modern country polish with crunchy guitars and soaring hooks. The result is a track that feels both radio-ready and emotionally grounded.

Delta Sweet describes his approach to songwriting as delivering “songs that give you sugar with your medicine.” The melodies pull you in immediately, while the story behind them offers something deeper for listeners who lean into the lyrics.

That balance has become a defining feature of his solo work. It also helps bridge the gap between his pop-rock past and his current country direction.

From Pop-Rock Success to Country Storyteller

Before launching his solo country project, Patrick Kordyback rose to national attention as the frontman of Stereos, the genre-blending band that first broke through on the MuchMusic series DisBAND.

The group quickly found success with a gold-selling debut album and multi-platinum singles like “Throw Ya Hands Up” and “Summer Girl.” Along the way, Stereos earned two JUNO nominations, three SOCAN #1 Awards, and built a fiercely loyal fanbase.

Even then, country storytelling was quietly influencing Kordyback’s songwriting.

“Country radio was the soundtrack to every camping trip, lake weekend, bike ride, Slurpee, you name it,” he says. “I think the biggest influence this has had on the music I’ve released previously is the fact that I always wanted every song to tell a story. No genre of music can tell a story better than country.”

That storytelling instinct is now front and centre in Delta Sweet’s music.

A Breakthrough Run Continues

“The Backroad of Memory Lane” follows a strong stretch of momentum for Delta Sweet, including radio chart success and major performances at the Calgary Stampede and Country Music Alberta’s CCMA Showcase. More festival appearances are expected throughout the summer.

Fans won’t have to wait long for more visuals from the new single either. The music video, directed by CCMA Award-winning filmmaker Travis Nesbitt, is set to arrive on March 6.

With its mix of infectious hooks, reflective storytelling, and country-rock grit, “The Backroad of Memory Lane” shows Delta Sweet continuing to grow into his voice as a country artist while staying true to the melodic instincts that first made fans take notice.

For listeners who appreciate songs that balance heart, memory, and a little bit of edge, this one is worth the ride.
