Andrew’s titles and honours, as well as Sarah Ferguson’s, were axed last year by the King, in a bid to distance the monarchy from the embarrassing revelations continuing to emerge. However, at the time, it was understood that Beatrice and Eugenie’s royal standing, as well as status, would not be affected in the slightest by their parents’ misfortunes.

Now, as more details emerged in the latest batch of the Epstein files released by the US Department of Justice, discussions began to multiply about the princesses’ future in the royal fold.

But according to sources, Beatrice and Eugenie have no plans to step back from their royal status in the near future.

A close family friend told People magazine: “They want to hold on to their royal status. It’s their identity.”

Beatrice and Eugenie were entitled to royal titles at birth as the grandchildren of a monarch, Queen Elizabeth II at the time.

This is due to a Letter Patent issued by George V in 1917.

It restricted the His/Her Royal Highness and Prince/Princess titles to only be given to children of the monarch, children of the monarch’s sons, and the eldest son of the Prince of Wales’s eldest son.

In 2012, Queen Elizabeth II changed that to ensure all children of the Prince of Wales would have the same titles.
