King Charles III

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor‘s place in the line of succession has changed over the years, with seven younger royals now ahead of him.

Since the death of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022, King Charles III has held the throne, and when his reign ends, the crown will pass to the next generation.

Prince William

Prince William, the son of King Charles III and Princess Diana, is currently first in line to succeed the throne.

William became a Counsellor of State on his 21st birthday, standing in for Queen Elizabeth II during official occasions. He trained with the Army, Royal Navy and RAF, spending three years as a search-and-rescue pilot at RAF Valley in Anglesey.

Alongside his royal duties, he also worked part-time as a co-pilot with the East Anglian Air Ambulance. In July 2017, he stepped down from the role to focus on responsibilities for his grandparents.

The Prince of Wales, who married Kate Middleton in 2011, has three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, who follow him in the line of succession.

Prince George

Prince George of Wales was born on July 22, 2013 at St Mary’s Hospital in London, weighing 8 lbs., 6 oz. He is second in line to the throne, following his father, Prince William.

Princess Charlotte

Kate Middleton gave birth to her second child, Princess Charlotte, on May 2, 2015 at St Mary’s Hospital. Known formally as Her Royal Highness, she is third in line to the throne, following her father and older brother.

Prince Louis

The Princess of Wales welcomed her third child on April 23, 2018 at St Mary’s Hospital in London. Prince Louis is currently fourth in line to the throne.

Prince Harry

Prince Harry, the son of King Charles III and Princess Diana, ranks sixth in line to the throne.

After completing his training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, he became a lieutenant in the Army and served as a helicopter pilot. Prince Harry spent 10 years in the armed forces, including two deployments to Afghanistan as an Apache helicopter co-pilot and gunner. He left the Army in 2015 and now works on charitable projects, including the Invictus Games.

Prince Harry married actress Meghan Markle in 2018 at Windsor Castle. Two years later, the couple announced they would step back as “senior” royals, dividing their time between the U.K. and North America.

In 2021, Buckingham Palace announced they would not resume royal duties and would surrender their honorary military roles and royal patronages.

Prince Archie

On May 6, 2019, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle welcomed their first child, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, who weighed 7 lbs., 3 oz.

Archie did not automatically receive the title of prince at birth because he was not a grandson of the monarch, but he gained the title when King Charles III ascended to the throne. The Sussexes are reportedly allowing their children to decide whether to use their titles when they are older.

Princess Lilibet

The Duchess of Sussex welcomed her second child, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, on June 4, 2021 in Santa Barbara, California.

Lili was named in honor of the Royal Family’s nickname for Queen Elizabeth II. Like her brother, she received the royal title when her grandfather, King Charles III, took the throne.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the son of Queen Elizabeth II, was once second in line to the throne, but is now eighth in succession after King Charles III’s children and grandchildren.

He spent 22 years in the Royal Navy, including active service in the 1982 Falklands War. Alongside his royal engagements, he worked as a special trade representative for the government until 2011.

In 2019, the former Prince Andrew stepped back from royal duties following criticism over his ties to Jeffrey Epstein. In fall 2025, his brother stripped him of his royal titles and honors, including prince and Duke of York, though he still holds his place in the line of succession.
