Two prominent professional athletes face legal scrutiny following separate traffic-related incidents this month. Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence early Friday morning, while Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett was reportedly cited for traveling 94 miles-per-hour in a 70-mph zone.
According to a report from TMZ, which first broke the news of the arrest, Brooks was taken into custody in Scottsdale, Arizona, on Friday around 2 a.m. The veteran small forward was processed and released from custody about 80 minutes later. A mugshot released following the arrest shows Brooks staring into the camera in a white tank top.
The 30-year-old Brooks has been sidelined for the past few weeks with a fractured hand. Further details regarding the specific nature of the stop or his blood alcohol content have not yet been released.
In the NFL, Browns star Myles Garrett is dealing with his own automotive legal troubles. WKYC in Cleveland first reported that Garrett was issued a citation for driving 24 mph over the speed limit on Interstate 71 in Congress Township, Ohio.
The incident occurred around 1:35 a.m. on Feb. 21. Records from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office indicate that the All-Pro defender was “kind and cooperative” during the stop. This latest citation marks the ninth speeding ticket for Garrett since he joined the Browns in 2017.
The pattern of high-speed driving has been a recurring theme for the defensive standout. In 2022, Garrett survived a rollover crash in his Porsche after being clocked at 65 mph in a 45-mph zone. More recently, he was fined for driving 100 mph in a 60-mph zone last August.
Garrett, who recently set the NFL single-season sack record with 23, has the option to pay a fine or appear in court on March 10.
