Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made their final appearance at working royals on this day in London back in 2020. The couple, who now reside in Califonia with their two children, had made their shock announcement of their plan to step back from duties two months prior.
A royal book reported that Harry was “fighting back tears” after what appeared to be a snub at the service. Prior to the ceremony, 2,000 orders of service had been distributed detailing that Prince William and Princess Catherine would enter into Westminster Abbey with the main royals – with no mention made of Harry and Meghan.
At the time, the Daily Mail reported that Harry and Meghan were “quite sensitive and emotional about it”.
Royal author and historian Robert Lacey wrote: “Observers also noted that Harry’s face was ‘quite tense and unsmiling’ – and that when William sat down close to him, he barely greeted his brother.
“Throughout the service, Meghan megawatted away with her best TV smile but, as the ceremony progressed, Harry appeared to grow gloomier.
“According to one observer, ‘his accelerated blinking even suggested he might have been fighting back tears’.

King Charles is set to lead the royals as the come together for today’s Commonwealth Day service in London.
The Prince and Princess of Wales and Princess Anne are expected to join the monarch.
