The Royal Family has been given a major boost as 62 percent of voters in a new poll share that they believe the UK will still have a monarchy in 20 years’ time. Despite the latest scandal involving Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, support for the Royal Family seems to remain stable – though many have one major demand.

In a new poll conducted by the i paper, fans were asked about the future of the monarchy – with fresh pressure placed on the Firm to disclose more details in regards to the Epstein scandal, and, in particular, the allegations of how the King’s brother used his taxpayer-funded post of trade envoy sparked uproar.

Asked how they felt about the UK still having a monarchy rather than becoming a republic, voters appeared to favour keeping the monarchy.

In addition to the 62 percent who support the monarchy, the poll showed that 20 percent are in support of the UK becoming a republic – and having an elected head of state.

An additional 20 percent voted that they had ‘no preference’ and 9 percent voted ‘don’t know’.

Graham Smith, who is the head of anti-monarchy campaign group Republic, has said the royals should be as transparent about finances as politicians or any other public body.

He said: “If anyone spends public money the public have a right to know about it. It’s that simple.”

Speaking of the decline in the support of the monarchy, he added: “The monarchy has no place in a modern democracy. It’s running out of road and the sooner it goes the better.”

Andrew Lownie, who is the author of the recent biography on Mountbatten-Windsor, Entitled, said: “As a monarchist who wants it to continue, but with continued trust and respect, I welcome greater transparency about royal finances.

“I also hope they will now be open to more parliamentary scrutiny. If they have nothing to hide, they have nothing to fear.”
