Looks like Callum Turner is next in line to carry 007’s shaken, not stirred, martini.
That is, if decentralized prediction markets are any indication.
According to Polymarket, the odds are in Turner’s favor. A former fashion model, Turner is an English actor whose credits include Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and The Boys. He is also the fiancé of one Dua Lipa.
Yesterday, the actor received a significant nudge, pushing him way out in front of the pack in running to become the next James Bond.
Here’s where things stand currently: Turner jumped from 31% to 41% yesterday, but now sits at 26%. Aaron Taylor-Johnson (28 Years Later) and Henry Cavill (Mission: Impossible – Fallout) occupy the next positions, with 4%, followed by Jacob Elordi (Wuthering Heights) and Harris Dickinson (Babygirl), who both have a 1% chance of landing the iconic role, according to the betting site.
We should also note that the choice with the highest percentage at the moment is “No Bond Chosen,” with 51%.
In an interview with Variety in 2014, the outgoing James Bond, Daniel Craig, addressed the question of who he’d prefer take over the role in his wake. He gave a pretty blunt answer.
“I don’t care,” he said.
Craig began playing Bond in his 30s. Five installments later, he ended his tenure with No Time to Die at 53 years old. Speaking on BBC Radio 4’s Best of Today podcast in 2022, the British actor said he has “no regrets” with his decision to leave the franchise.
“I had an incredibly fortunate 17 years of my life making this,” he said. “I literally want to spend the next 20 years of my life trying to unhook it all and try and put it into a place because it was incredible. I left it where I wanted it to be. And that I was given the chance to do that with the last movie.”
As for Bond 26, the next installment in the 007 film franchise, French-Canadian visionary and Oscar-nominated director Denis Villeneuve (Dune, Arrival) is helming, with Peaky Blinders and A Thousand Blows series creator and screenwriter Steven Knight adapting the original content supplied by writer Ian Fleming.
Production is expected to kick off late this year, per Deadline.
