This season, jewelry embraced a less-is-more approach, and the 98th Academy Awards were no exception, with the restrained shift firmly taking hold on the Oscars red carpet.
Several of this year’s Academy Award nominated performances were ones of quiet confidence, and so too was the mood on the red carpet with intentional pieces, free of excess, that delivered impact.
A statement necklace was omnipresent but the choker emerged as the shows defining style that graced many actresses’ neck, such as Ginnifer Goodwin’s emerald and mint green tourmaline showstopper by Sabyasachi, Gwyneth Paltrow’s Tiffany & Co.’s platinum and yellow gold with diamonds take or Chase Infinity’s De Beers London diamond number.
Several statement necklaces did make the case for drama yet was still restrained. Jessie Buckley in a Chanel high jewelry, Rose Byrne in a Taffin high jewelry style with desert diamonds, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Anne Hathaway in Bulgari high jewelry showstoppers. Kate Hudson wore a rare, 41-carats green diamond style by Garatti reported to be worth $35 million.

The brooch trend shows no sign of waning. Damson Idris created his own bespoke style for his jewelry brand Didris, Michael B. Jorden wore a suite of David Yurman brooches, and Channing Tatum in a Tiffany & Co. Bird on a Rock style.
The men also had timepieces to flex with, and Rolex was a sponsor of this year’s Academy awards. Shaboozey wore a Chopard diamond timepiece, Omega donned the wrists of Amy Madigan, Robert Downey Jr. and more, and Cartier landed on Jacob Elordi and Paul Mescal.
Rather than pilling it all on, the award season’s biggest showcase— the Oscars— purposed adornment with focus, a styling strategy not lost on brands whose red carpet images reverberate instantly around the globe.
