They have my attention… because it’s a great song and a very steamy music video.
Today, Carly Pearce released a new duet with Riley Green called “If I Don’t Leave I’m Gonna Stay,” which was written by Devin Dawson, Seth Ennis, Jordan Minton and Jordan Reynolds.
Of course, they had the internet in a frenzy just with the teasers they shared getting very up close and personal, but the music video takes all of that to the next level… they played a beautiful couple in the video, and just like in the song, they know they shouldn’t be together but letting that go is much easier said than done. There’s some elusive magnetism that keeps pulling them back together, and I’m always here for a good duet, and I love both Riley and Carly as individual artists which makes it even more fun to see them working together on such a great song.
Carly says she’s been a fan of Riley for a long time, and she made sure to find the perfect song for them to finally collaborate on:
“Collaborating with artists I’m a fan of is one of my favorite things to do. I’ve been a fan of Riley’s for so long and knew if we could find the right moment, it would be special. ‘If I Don’t Leave I’m Gonna Stay’ is the perfect moment for us!”
Similarly, Riley says he’s a huge fan of Carly, and he loved the unique harmonies that made this song so special:
“I’ve been a huge fan of Carly and her voice for a long time, so it was cool to get the text from her about this song. The harmonies were unique and there was something really different about it. I’m glad she thought of me for this song, it’s awesome to get to do something together.”
I know fans will love the song, but will probably be more interested in the music video, which was directed by Wes Edwards and finds Pearce and Green grappling with the decision to see where the night takes them or to go their separate ways. It’s full of tension, temptation, and considering how sexy it is, I can only imagine the comments and the rumor mill that will be stirred up by it…
There are pretty much constantly rumors about Riley’s dating life, but these two are labelmates and aren’t dating (Carly also has a boyfriend), though it’s safe to say that the internet probably won’t care… but this kind of thing is a great way to get people talking about your song, that’s for dang sure. I mean, usually that’s kind of the point of this sort of thing… and I’m not mad about it.
Obviously, Riley has a great track records with his female duets, and of course the two hits he did with Ella Langley come to mind first in “you look like you love me” and “Don’t Mind If I Do,” and I don’t see why this one would be any different in terms of the quality of the song because Carly is also an incredibly talented artist who consistently puts out some of the best stuff in mainstream Nashville.
Her choosing Riley was not random by any means, and I hope they have a lot of success with “If I Don’t Leave I’m Gonna Stay” because it really is a beautiful song and heartbreaking, sultry duets like this are a country music specialty.

Carly has been teasing a new album and put out several singles over the last couple months with the most recent one (aside from this one) being “Church Girl,” and while she hasn’t announced anything official, it’s likely that both songs will be featured on the tracklist for whatever project Carly has in the works.
And clearly, I think there will be a ton of variety in terms of the subject matter, so stay tuned…
