The 2026 Oscars may have delivered glitz and glam on stage, but one photo from inside the Dolby Theatre has sparked backlash online after revealing the mess left behind by guests once the ceremony was over.
Hollywood’s biggest night saw hundreds of actors, filmmakers, and industry figures gather at the 98th Academy Awards on Sunday (March 15) to celebrate the year’s biggest movies, with Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another coming out on top with six accolades.

Ryan Coogler’s Sinners was a close second, earning four Oscars at the event. But while the ceremony itself drew plenty of praise, one image circulating online afterwards has shifted the conversation to the not-so-glamorous aftermath.
Matt Neglia, owner and editor-in-chief of Next Best Picture, shared a photo of the Dolby Theatre post-event, showing rows of seats littered with drinks bottles, food containers, and other debris, joking alongside it, “Clean up on aisle ALL.”

The image has prompted criticism online, with some viewers even accusing celebrities of hypocrisy after the mess left behind inside the Dolby Theatre. “Rich people leaving their dirt for poor people as always,” wrote one.

“‘Save the mountains, keep them clean, blah blah blah’… but look at the mess they leave,” said another. “Nobody’s buying it anymore. As the saying goes: A lion is revealed by where it lies.”
A third quipped, “It’s One Bottle After Another,” while a fourth chimed in, “For people dressed in millions of dollars, they sure left the place looking like a movie theater after a Marvel premiere. Proof that wealth doesn’t automatically come with manners.”

It’s also been shared on Reddit, where the poster said, “After all those snobby hypocrites circlejerk themselves at the Oscars for three hours straight, this is the mess they leave behind for the immigrant workers to clean up.”

However, others have jumped in to defend the Oscars 2026 guests, with one suggesting that the Hollywood actors in attendance might not be the culprits.
“This looks like the section where the rest of the audience sits, not the main area where all the big name celebrities were seated,” they wrote. “It’s the rest of the academy riff raff who do this, not the actors.”

Another pointed the finger at the organizers, stating, “The Oscars may have been glamorous, but the aftermath shows a major planning oversight: not a single waste station in sight!
“With thousands of guests enjoying food and drinks, accessible bins in each aisle would have made ‘Clean up on aisle ALL’ a non-issue. Sometimes, the little logistics make the biggest difference.”
But another chimed in to say, “Japan has ZERO public trash cans and it never looks like this.”

A fourth added, “To be fair, this is sadly what every movie theater in America looks like after a showing. I certainly wouldn’t expect rich people to pick up after themselves better than average people lol.”

One person argued that it’s common at large events for staff to clean rows after guests leave, writing, “Lots of places ask you to leave your rubbish at your seat, so that a team can come along and clean it.

“None of this looks bad. It’s not an entire box of popcorn spilled on the floor or rotisserie chickens. It’s boxes and bottles belonging to individuals, on individual seats.”
