Kyle Sandilands joked he was dressed to attend a job interview after he finished filming Australian Idol amid doubt over his breakfast radio future.
The shock jock is nervously anticipating the verdict on his $100m KIIS FM radio contract after ARN — the station’s owner — deemed his behaviour towards co-host Jackie O Henderson during a live broadcast on February 20 inappropriate.
When appearing as a judge on Australian Idol on Tuesday night, Sandilands said there was “nothing else on his mind” other than the fate of the remaining 12 contestants on the show.
He also joked about his professional-looking attire while sitting on the judges’ panel alongside Marcia Hines and Amy Shark.
“I’m wearing this suit because I have a job interview at Lowes after,” he said.
Lowes is a affordable clothing outlet with stores across Australia.
His comments hint at the decision ARN executives are expected to make “imminently”.
ARN suspended the controversial host on March 3 and said he had 14 days to remedy the breach, with the show taken off the airwaves in the meantime.
Sandilands appeared outside his Sydney home on Tuesday, where he told media he expected ARN to honour his contract.
“At the end of the day, I’ve got a contract with ARN, and I expect them to honour that,” Sandilands said on Tuesday.
“I do have some options if they don’t.”
When asked about whether he would look into buying out the media company, which has a market cap of about $106 million, Sandilands smiled and said he had “many options”.
“I still want to do the show, the listeners want me back on doing the show,” he said.
The friction between the breakfast hosts stemmed from Sandilands’ criticism of Jackie O’s obsession with astrology after she looked into Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s horoscope.
“You’re off with the fairies … every segment, every time you’ve spoken, you don’t even know what’s going on,” Sandilands said.
“You’re not doing the rest of the job and everyone in this building has mentioned it to me.”
