The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are “walking disasters” who “have not succeeded in the US”, a leading royal expert has claimed. It comes as a new book by royal author Tom Bower is set to be released on March 26, titled Betrayal: Power, Deceit and the Fight for the Future of the Royal Family.
The book’s description reads: “Fighting to preserve their royal titles and privileges, in their attempts to create a Sussex brand, the couple have fuelled bitter hostility.” Leading royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams also suggested that the Sussexes are fighting a losing battle.
He told the Daily Express: “Whether his [Tom Bower’s] quotes are exact and his descriptions accurate is arguable, but that he has targeted a couple who appear to be walking disasters is pretty clear. They have not succeeded in the US, they have lost Spotify, Netflix is no longer backing As Ever. He has lost Sentebale, their Charity seems tiny and in 2024, was losing money.”
Mr Fitzwilliams claims Harry and Meghan “behaved destructively towards the Royal Family” after they famously quit as senior working royals in 2020.
He adds Mr Bower has “obvious targets” and “his criticisms about the Invictus Games have unsurprisingly led to ferocious denunciations from the Sussexes, who have called him ‘deranged’ and ‘fixated’.”
It also says that Prince Harry feared his older brother and future king, William, “could remove all the Sussexes’ titles and effectively banish him from Britain”. Tom Bower, 79, is a former BBC Panorama journalist who is known for his explosive biographies.
They added: “This is someone who has publicly stated, ‘the monarchy in fact depends on actually obliterating the Sussexes from our state of life,’ language that speaks for itself.
“He has made a career out of constructing ever more elaborate theories about people he does not know and has never met.
“Those interested in facts will look elsewhere; those seeking deranged conspiracy and melodrama know exactly where to find him.”
