Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are making headlines once again after the two issued a statement over claims by journalist and author Tom Bower. Despite the retaliation, the author still believes that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have caused “damage” to the royals for their profit.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry recently issued a statement over Tom Bower’s claims in his new book, “Betrayal: Power, Deceit and the Fight for the Future of the Royal Family.” In the book, he claimed that Queen Camilla once told a friend that Markle “brainwashed” Harry. Additionally, he made a bombshell claim that Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton “evidently saw Meghan as a threat rather than an ally” as tensions soared ahead of the Sussexes’ decision to leave the royal family in 2020 for a life in the US.
In retaliation, the Sussexes issued a statement that the author “has long crossed the line from criticism into fixation.” “This is someone who has publicly stated, ‘the monarchy in fact depends on actually obliterating the Sussexes from our state of life,’ language that speaks for itself.” Markle and Harry further added that the author has “made a career out of constructing ever more elaborate theories about people he does not know and has never met,” and called his claims “deranged conspiracy and melodrama.”
However, the author defended his comments, and told the Mirror that his “interview followed Meghan outrageously alleging to Oprah Winfrey” about the treatment by the Royal Family, and believes since then the couple has “shoddily continued to monetise their status and attack their family.”
“Unfortunately they have chosen to continue to exploit their relationship for their personal and financial advantage,” Bower claimed in the interview. The author even added that Harry and Markle “have caused such irreversible damage” to the royal family “for their own profit that their silence would have been hugely welcome.”
