A former butler who served the Royal Family has recalled how Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor possessed a “vibe” that left him reluctant to “be in his presence”. Having worked for the likes of King Charles and Queen Camilla and his sons, Harry and William, it stands to reason that Grant Harrold was privy to some of the innermost workings of the Royal household.
Given his role, it’s also reasonable to assume that he shared an interaction or two with the King’s brother. The disgraced former prince has dominated headlines due to a highly publicised fall from grace stemming from his links to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Thames Valley Police arrested Andrew on suspicion of misconduct in public office last month on his 66th birthday. Andrew, who continues to deny any wrongdoing, was released under investigation.
When asked to share his thoughts on the disgraced former prince, Grant explained that he had limited interactions with Andrew, but conceded that when he did, he was “polite”, yet there was a noticeable “entitled feeling.”
He told LADbible Stories: “You know, there would be a kind of thank you or whatever, but there was also this feeling of, as a lot of people describe – entitled. You got the feeling he thought he was better than everyone, just his mannerisms and his…the way he was.
“And what was weird for me was no other member of the family did you get that vibe from, not from the Queen, not from Prince Philip, not from his brother, Charles, not from Anne, none of them.”
“But with him, he had this, I can’t even explain it to you. I just didn’t want to be in his presence. I mean, you know, luckily, I didn’t have to do much for him, and as I said, I didn’t have…”
Grant then recounted the King and Queen’s wedding, claiming that Andrew “didn’t speak” to staff members attending as guests, and would only converse with family or family friends.
He characterised this as “sad”, acknowledging that he didn’t understand “why he was like that”. None of his royal household colleagues “ever have a nice thing to say” about him, Grant additionally claimed.
Andrew wasn’t “one of the most popular royals”, he continued, observing that, in his view, he doesn’t remember them “being that close”. However, Grant emphasised that Charles is “absolutely” close to his sister, Anne.
He theorised that perhaps the King always had an “inkling”, adding that he got the impression that they weren’t “particularly close”.
