Mike Jackson is opening up about what he believes it takes for a marriage to stay strong.
The Married to Real Estate alum took to Instagram on Thursday, March 19 to share some scenes from his and wife Egypt Sherrod’s recent getaway and pen a candid message about the lessons he’s learned from their marriage.
“Love, and marriage are not meant to stay still; they are living, breathing journeys that stretch, and shape two people over time,” the caption reads. “As seasons change, so do the ways we give, take action, receive, and understand love. What begins as passion evolves into patience, grace, and intentional commitment.”
After noting how he believes his religion plays a positive role in his marriage, he shares what he thinks a marriage needs in order to flourish.
“Growth in marriage means learning each other over and over, again and again, choosing forgiveness over pride, and evolving not just as individuals, but as a unified team guided by faith,” he writes, adding that having “honest conversations” helps love “mature into something enduring and rooted.”
Jackson’s post comes months after fans were questioning the status of the former HGTV stars’ marriage when Sherrod posted a New Year’s update on Instagram, in which she penned a message about her “patience” being tested.
Sherrod did not clarify who the post was referring to, and a representative for Sherrod had no comment to share with PEOPLE about it at the time.
Sherrod and Jackson tied the knot in September 2010 after six years of dating. Since then, they have welcomed two children together, daughters Harper and Kendall. Sherrod is also stepmom to Jackson’s older daughter, Simone, from a previous relationship.

In a 2025 interview with PEOPLE about the surprise cancellation of their HGTV show, the couple addressed rumors circulating about their relationship, and how that affected things behind the scenes as they worked on what ended up being the final season of Married to Real Estate.
Amid what they described as changes to their production team and other uncertainty with the network, the two said that adding to the chaos were questions about their marriage.
“From a fan standpoint, another monkey wrench in it all was false articles flying all over the place about us separating,” Jackson said at the time.
“We were like, ‘Where’s this coming from? Because we’re still deeply in love and having fun and traveling.’ So you’ve got all the [show executive] changes, you don’t know what time slot [you’re in] and then you’ve got the fans reading articles that aren’t true,” he added.
Married to Real Estate was one of six fan-favorite HGTV series that was unexpectedly cancelled in 2025.
