Rachel Weisz is the latest A-list celebrity to offer her talents to a Netflix production. The actress is the star of the streaming platform’s new limited series, Vladimir, an adaptation of Julia May Jonas’s bestselling debut novel of the same name.
The show was ordered to have a total of eight episodes, but with a stacked cast, sizzling plot, and critically acclaimed source material, fans are wondering if the series might receive a second season.

Has Vladimir been renewed for a season 2?
Not yet, and there’s a chance that it may not get a renewal at all. The show is described by Netflix as an eight-episode limited series, meaning that it’s less likely the show could receive a second season.
What could Vladimir season 2 be about?
According to the official logline of the first season,“Vladimir follows an unnamed, middle-aged protagonist (Weisz) who is a writer, professor, wife, and mom. As her life unravels, she becomes obsessed with a captivating new colleague, the eponymous Vladimir, at the small liberal arts college where she’s worked for decades. Full of sexy secrets, dark humor, and complex characters, Vladimir is about what happens when a woman is hell-bent on turning her fantasies into reality.”
The official synopsis for the corresponding book offers a bit more detail: “A popular English professor whose charismatic husband at the same small liberal arts college is under investigation for his inappropriate relationships with his former students. The couple have long had a mutual understanding when it comes to their extra-marital pursuits, but with these new allegations, life has become far less comfortable for them both. And when our narrator becomes increasingly infatuated with Vladimir—a celebrated, married young novelist who’s just arrived on campus—their tinder box world comes dangerously close to exploding.”
The female protagonist of the novel enters a fatal attraction with Vladimir Vladinski, and the pair enter a sexual relationship with each other at her husband John’s cabin. Though the protagonist and John have an open marriage, he blows up when he finds out about his wife and Vlad’s relationship. The men fight, and Vlad accuses John of taking advantage of his own wife, Cynthia, at the university.
The female protagonist turns on two space heaters as the men argue to regulate her body temperature (she experiences chills when she’s in distress). Vlad leaves the cabin to clear his head with a late-night kayak ride, while the narrator and John make up for the night and go to sleep—until the cabin bursts into flames, and Vlad rescues her and John from the fire.
The novel concludes with John and the narrator moving to Washington Heights and working on their writing after recovering from their severe burn injuries. Vlad and his wife Cynthia also continue writing: He pens a book about his affair with an older woman, while Cynthia surprises with a bestselling novel that earns her a tenured position at the university.
Though there’s no word on whether a season 2 of Vladimir could materialize, a season 2 plot could explore the aftermath of the fire and the psychological impact that the narrator’s affair with Vlad had on her relationship with John, but fans will have to stay tuned.
