New footage of Donald Trump shows his candid reaction after learning about the death of actor Chuck Norris.
While leaving the White House on Friday, March 20, the president was informed about Norris, who died at the age of 86 on Thursday morning after being hospitalized in Hawaii.
Donald Trump’s Reacts to Chuck Norris’ Death
“I thought he was a great guy. Wow,” Trump, 79, said with surprise after he was told the news by reporters on Friday. “He was a great guy. He was a really good tough cookie.”
Going on to further memorialize the late action star and martial artist, the president said, “You didn’t want to fight him…He was a tough, great guy.”
“He was a great supporter,” he added of Norris, a lifelong Republican who had previously expressed his support for Trump during more than one of his presidential election campaigns.
“Wow, that’s too bad,” Trump repeated in the video taken on Friday, while asking the reporter to send Norris’ family his “highest respects.”
Was Chuck Norris a Trump Supporter?
In 2016, Norris publicly endorsed Trump during his first presidential election, before backing Trump again in 2020 when he ran for reelection.
Norris also appeared to be optimistic about the Trump administration at the start of Trump’s second term in office, writing in a January 2025 column that Trump had assembled an “amazing league of Cabinet leaders.”
“Amazingly, Trump has stayed strong and continues to fight (fight, fight) to make America great again,” Norris wrote at the time. “Now, it’s our turn to do our best to support and pray for him…[so] America can finally experience a stronger economy, a secure border, lower crime and a better international position in the world.”
Despite internet rumors of Norris having been photographed at the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol in 2021, a representative for the actor later shut down the speculation, confirming that Norris was not present at the insurrection in D.C., and was instead on his Texas ranch with his family.
