Actor Jason Momoa revealed that he and his family had to evacuate their home amid devastating floods in Hawaii.
The “Aquaman” and “Dune” star said his family lost power in O’ahu’s North Shore, which experienced landslides and downed trees during the severe rainstorm.
“I got my family with me,” Momoa said in an Instagram Story on Saturday. “We got out of the North Shore … our power went off.”
While Momoa confirmed that he and his family were safe, he said his thoughts are with those who were caught up in the storm.
“There’s a lot of people who weren’t (safe), so we’re sending our love,” he said.
The storm forced the evacuation of 5,500 people north of Honolulu over the weekend and more than 200 people were rescued, as Hawaii experienced its worst flooding in more than 20 years. No deaths were reported and no one was unaccounted for.
Officials sent out an emergency alert Saturday morning to warn those in O’ahu’s North Shore community to evacuate. Evacuation orders were later lifted once the winter storm moved east.
Hawaii Gov. Josh Green said the damages from the storms could surpass $1 billion, with airports, schools, roads, homes and a Maui hospital among the impacted areas.
“These past weeks have been heavy,” Momoa wrote in a separate Instagram post on Saturday. “The storms, the flooding, the constant rain across O’ahu have affected so many of our people especially those already facing hardship. Seeing families displaced, communities struggling, and our unhoused neighbors hit the hardest.”
Momoa shared that he and his girlfriend, actress Adria Arjona, partnered with his favorite restaurant, Zippy’s, to help feed others suffering from the storm.
“If you’re out there and able to help in any way no matter how big or small please do,” Momoa wrote. “Check in on your neighbors. Give what you can. Spread aloha.”
