Lana Condor went through a dramatic transformation for her latest role.
The actress, 28, opened up to PEOPLE about training to play a ballerina in the new action thriller Pretty Lethal while at the 2026 SXSW Film & TV Festival on March 13.
“It was pretty crazy. I was incredibly out of shape six months before doing this film and it would have been impossible for me to do it,” she said.

The To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before star explained that she did weight training and took ballet classes five days a week, as well as paid attention to her nutrition.
“I trained very hard for this because I wanted my body to be prepared. It was a very hard movie, physically, to do. I did a crazy amount of training and I went through a bit of a transformation, which I was very proud of,” Condor said.

The movie, directed by Vicky Jewson, follows a ballet troupe as their bus breaks down on the way to a competition. They seek shelter at a suspicious roadside inn run by a former ballet star.
Maddie Ziegler, Uma Thurman, Avantika, Millicent Simmonds and Iris Apatow also star.
As for what drew Condor to the movie, she said she has a background in dance and has always wanted to bring her skills to the screen.
The actress was also a fan of the story, saying, “I loved the team aspect between the dance troupe.”
Condor had her breakthrough role in 2018’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. She reprised her role in the two sequels, and it was recently announced that she will make an appearance in the upcoming season of the spin-off series XO, Kitty. Additional credits include Boo, Bitch, Abbott Elementary and Moonshot.

Her co-star Ziegler also opened up about preparing for her ballerina role in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE.
“We were all living in the same hotel and we were immediately immersed into three weeks of boot camp,” she said.
