The premier destination for head-banging and moshing your heart out to pop punk and emo classics is the monthly Emo Night Baton Rouge at Chelsea’s Live.

Founded by Garrett Saia in 2018, these events have found a home at Chelsea’s Live since its opening in 2022.

Since then, Emo Night has become a staple at Chelsea’s returning almost every month to the venue, attracting staggeringly large crowds.

These crowds are easy to get lost in. Not only is the dance floor shoulder to shoulder and spilling out onto the patio, but everyone is dressing up in their best all-black alternative outfits.

This is not to say this crowd is by any chance uniform. Emo Nights cast a wildly diverse crowd. You will find people of all walks of life, from LSU freshmen to veteran punk millennials, each adding their own spark to their outfits–be it a splash of red, leather, spikes, or face paint.

The diversity extends to the karaoke selections. Chelsea’s Shut Up & Sing Karaoke hosted by Mookie Darden is a weekly tradition almost as old as the venue itself.

In August of 2025 they began to partner up with Emo Night for a special edition of Shut Up & Sing Emo Karaoke, and attendees are indeed embracing the opportunity to perform.

Just an hour after doors open the cue to sign up is full and closed. People perform a wide range of emo songs, some even stretching the definition of the genre.

While singers will take on classics such as “I Hate Everything About You” by Three Days Grace or “King for a Day” by Pierce the Veil, one attendee stands out from everyone by singing the twangy country hit “Ring of Fire” by Johnny Cash.

Eclectic taste is fairly on brand for Emo Night nevertheless. With tunes courtesy of emo night regular DJ Dan Lion, guests at Chelsea’s are treated to neverending set of surprises.

Fans get to experience their standard grouping of pop punk classics ranging from Paramore to Green Day to My Chemical Romance. However, every now and then DJ Dan Lion drops the lights and breaks your expectations with songs like Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball”.

Regardless of what genre plays, emo or not, the atmosphere will never be anything but intoxicating. The crowd is in constant motion as people throw their hands up, wave them around, and dance the night away while screaming at the top of their lungs.

People may come with friends or solo, but inevitably leave with new connections. Emo Night attendees just want to have a good time with anyone who is willing to join them. Even in the most intense moments of the pit opening up, everyone is smiling and helping each other up when they fall.

Do not fret if you had to miss this past Emo Night Baton Rouge event. In custom with their very first time at Chelsea’s, they will be hosting Emo Prom this upcoming April 24. Anyone who wants to join is encouraged to wear prom attire and be ready to rock all night long. With the official Emo Night Baton Rouge Instagram wiping its feed as well, there is more exciting news sure to come.
