It may be hard to believe, but we are now in the launch year of Grand Theft Auto 6. Unless something unexpected happens, GTA 6 is set to release on November 19, and with the marketing campaign expected to begin this summer, many are already asking how much money Rockstar’s massive open-world title could generate.

In fact, looking at what the company has spent on its developers, it may need to bring in more than $3 billion in revenue through sales and related profits.

Rockstar Has Spent Over $2.1 Billion on GTA 6 Development Since 2019

According to new estimates based on Rockstar North’s financial documents, GTA 6 could become the most expensive project not only in the video game industry but across the entire entertainment sector. The studio has reportedly spent more than $2.1 billion on salaries since 2019, a figure that could raise the total cost of the project to around $3 billion by its expected November release.

Take-Two had previously explained that work on GTA 6 began around 2018, after the release of Red Dead Redemption 2, while full production started in 2020. This long development cycle helps explain the very high figures.

Until now, one of the most widely discussed figures was an estimated final budget of around $2 billion, including production, salaries, and marketing. However, the new estimates raise that amount even further, placing GTA 6 far above other high-budget projects.

For comparison, Cyberpunk 2077 is estimated to have cost around $441 million, Red Dead Redemption 2 between $300 million and $500 million, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II more than $300 million.

If these estimates are confirmed, GTA 6 will not only break every record in the gaming industry, but could also become the most expensive entertainment project in history.

In other news, Rockstar Games is hosting a major recruitment drive on April 18, 2026, to hire “Associate QA Testers,” signaling that GTA 6 is entering its final and crucial polishing phase, making a delay unlikely.
