Celebrities and athletes will be banned from appearing in gambling advertising and odds-style promotions targeting sports fans, under new rules announced by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Thursday, as free-to-air broadcasters said the changes would have “a material impact” on their revenue.
Former Formula 1 driver Daniel Ricciardo, ex-NBA superstar Shaquille O’Neal and Australian social media comedians The Inspired Unemployed are among the personalities who will likely be banned from continuing lucrative commercial deals promoting betting firms Dabble and PointsBet.
