Thanks to her 30-year role as an ambassador for The King’s Trust – formerly The Prince’s Trust – Carol Vorderman has been lucky enough to meet King Charles III on numerous occasions, and reveals that he’s so down-to-earth she never feels nervous in his company.
“I’m pretty sure I’ve been an ambassador for the Trust since the 90s, so I’ve met the King and the Queen lots of times over the years. He’s always lovely and very easy to talk to. I even got him to do the ‘Mobot’ on stage once!” she laughs.
She also says she admires his courage of conviction, as well as his dedication to the Trust. “Whatever people think about the monarchy politically, King Charles keeps turning up for the Trust and doing all he can.
“He stands up for what he believes in. He spoke about the environment all those years ago and people mocked what he said, but it all came to pass. I think the Trust really is one of his greatest accolades. It’s one of his greatest successes, if not his greatest success.”
Carol presents the incredibly moving Pride of Britain Awards, which is attended by an array of inspiring unsung heroes from across the UK, as well as some of the country’s biggest stars.
She reveals that, funnily enough, King Charles isn’t one to table-hop in a bid to catch up on the latest showbiz gossip.
“He is always genuinely charming, and very interested in the younger people who are involved with the Trust, much more so than the celebs. I don’t think he’s ever going to be overly impressed by a girl who does sums on the telly!”

Carol is passionately supporting The King’s Trust Change a Girl’s Life campaign, which helps young women gain the skills and confidence they need to get into work.
“It’s the reason I’m so happy to be working with woman&home, so we can really shout about it. It’s an incredible scheme that’s helped over a million people, and I’ve seen first-hand how positively it’s affected people I know, or have met, over the years.
“The Trust has helped people from really desperate situations, and it trains young people for a lifetime. I’m so proud to be a part of it.”
