The film, set for release in December 2027, is directed by and stars Andy Serkis, with Peter Jackson producing, and will explore Aragorn’s pursuit of Gollum in the years before “The Fellowship of the Ring.”

Wood’s comment came almost offhandedly when he was asked about ongoing rumors that the role would go to Leo Woodall. “That is true.
