Geoffrey Owens, who starred on “The Cosby Show” as Cliff Huxtable’s son-in-law Elvin Tibideaux, clocked in for his shift on “The Pitt” in Thursday night’s episode.
The actor portrays Dr. Clay Barnett, a cardiothoracic surgeon, in Episode 13. He consults a CT scan for Duke Ekins (Jeff Kober), a friend, fellow motorcycle enthusiast and patient of Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch’s (Noah Wyle) who has been waiting all day to see the results of the scan.
It’s a quick scene for Barnett, who tells Dr. Robby that he can’t get Duke on the OR schedule for another week. The moment sends Robby — who’s been a ticking time bomb all season — into a rage.
Owens has made numerous TV appearances — including on “Power,” “The Haves and Have Nots,” “The Good Fight” and “All Rise” — since he went viral in 2018 for working at Trader Joe’s.
“I quit Trader Joe’s actually before the news hit,” Owens said in an interview on the “Big Tigger Morning Show” in 2024. “It was strange because someone had been in the store taking pictures. … And I was like, well, now that this is breaking, I’m not going to feel comfortable working in this store, wondering who’s around with a camera. It’s gonna be just too weird. I’m a very private person.”
He also said Trader Joe’s was a “wonderful place to work.”
If you’re a fan of “The Cosby Show,” you’ll remember that Owens’ character quit medical school for a moment and worked at a wilderness supply store. Later in the series, he finally became a doctor.
Watching “The Pitt,” I loved to see that his fictional characters had a full-circle moment.
