Prince William’s future monarchy seems to revolve around change, but there’s one narrative he can’t seem to get rid of — and it’s about his temperament.
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams praised the Prince of Wales to the Daily Mail for his “ruthless streak” because he believes it “is needed in today’s world” in terms of diplomacy, but not everyone sees it as a blessing.

Royal journalist Roya Nikkhah told Times Radio, per the Daily Mail, said “William is someone who does hold a grudge, he does choose sides. If someone picks the other side, he remembers that.”
Palace watchers know very well that his feud with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle runs deep, much to his own detriment. A February report from The Independent revealed that Gen A and Gen Z find William to be nothing more than a “nepo baby.”
“Having grown up amid a cost-of-living crisis, Gen Z and Gen A tend to have little patience for unearned privilege. They do not see William and Kate as the dynamic future of the monarchy, but as beneficiaries of inherited status,” the article explained while noting that many found William to be “cold” and “unkind” toward Harry.
Still, royalists want the palace to remain strong for the future, and they don’t see King Charles leading the way.
“Charles leads with his heart. William leads with strategy,” a royal insider told Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice Substack. The Prince of Wales “is not afraid to make hard calls,” and that is why the Duke of Sussex and the ex-prince Andrew are permanently on the outs with the royal family.
“He doesn’t forget, and he doesn’t forgive easily,” the source claimed. “If you cross the line, that’s it.”
William also appears to be moving his cousins, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, to the sidelines amid Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson’s Jeffrey Epstein scandal. Fitzwilliams thinks the cousins’ royal exit is next on William’s agenda.
“[William] has never been close to Beatrice and Eugenie, Andrew and Sarah’s daughters. He is only too aware that their brand is toxic and that it urgently needs to be totally separated from the Royal Family,” he claimed to the Daily Mail. “This may well, when he ascends the throne, extend to preventing them from using their titles.”
Prince William is carving out a leaner royal family, but there might be some hurt feelings along the way.
