Adrian Grenier gives a lighthearted update on his character Nate from The Devil Wears Prada
The actor teamed up with Disney and Starbucks for a nod to the past while keeping the good vibes moving forward with Starbucks Energy Refreshers
After recently speaking exclusively to PEOPLE about TDWP, Grenier is addressing it again and saying he’s available for the future
Adrian Grenier has no hard feelings about being left out of the Devil Wears Prada sequel, and is available to reprise his role as Nate should the opportunity present itself in the future.
The 49-year-old actor, who played the aspiring chef and boyfriend to Anne Hathaway’s Andy Sachs in 2006, has teamed up with Starbucks and Disney to address his absence from the long-awaited follow-up and PEOPLE has a first look at the all-new ad!
“You might have seen the headlines — I wasn’t asked to be part of a certain sequel,” a rather upbeat Grenier says to the camera. “But I’m good. Really. It’s all good energy.”
The camera shot widens from the close-up of his face to show Grenier standing at a Starbucks counter as a barista hands him a Starbucks Energy Refresher, now in classic, lemonade and coconut milk versions, available year-round.
“So a toast to Nate!” Grenier says, holding up the vibrant, fruit-forward pick-me-up at Starbucks.

“He made a mean sandwich, he loved his girlfriend, to a point,” he says, taking a seat at a table.
“He wasn’t perfect,” Grenier adds of his character. “So let’s leave Nate in 2006, and keep this good energy going.”
The new launch of Energy Refreshers includes the menu is the Mango Strawberry Energy Refresher, Mango Strawberry Lemonade Energy Refresher and Mango Dream Energy Refresher.
A shot of the product and a Devil Wears Prada 2 logo flashes across the screen before Grenier makes his way back on camera.
“I mean, if they call, I’m free,” he says as the commercial ends.
“Whether you’re making peace with what was, refreshing for what is or refueling for what’s next, Starbucks can help you move forward with all good energy,” the company says in a statement shared with PEOPLE.

The Starbucks Energy Refresher collab isn’t the first time Grenier has addressed his absence from the cult classic’s sequel.
“I spoke to David Frankel, the director recently,” he told PEOPLE exclusively in March while promoting his new project Self Custody. “I was disappointed… But, you know, apparently, my character is a controversial character, so he might need his own spinoff.”

He also acknowledged the backlash that Nate has received, adding, “But I have to stand [up] for my character. If Nate is actually the devil in The Devil Wears Prada, I’d like to see what his character does beyond, as a spinoff movie.”
Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci return for The Devil Wears Prada 2, in theaters May 1.
